The Story Behind
Roundabout Readers
Roundabout Readers was born from a lifelong love of people and stories. Its founder has dedicated her career to creating meaningful moments through connection, presence, and care. She is a former Activity Director, a published author, and a proud U.S. Army Veteran. Her professional background includes Senior Care, Early Childhood Development, and Elementary Education, with more than twenty years of experience supporting individuals of all ages in the United States and Europe.
While working within the senior community, she began to recognize a powerful parallel. Reading to older adults carried the same attentiveness and sense of shared experience as reading to children. She saw firsthand how meaningful it was when someone took the time to sit, share a story, and be fully present. She also became increasingly aware of the growing need for more in-room engagement, more one-on-one interaction, and more moments that reminded people they were seen, valued, and remembered.
Her understanding of isolation deepened after the loss of her husband to COVID. The long hours spent as both a patient herself, then as a caregiver to him, and the quiet months that followed, revealed how fragile human connection can be and how essential it is to emotional well-being. During that time, she reflected on the residents who waited for companionship, conversation, and someone to read with them. She remembered the calm that settles into a room when a story begins, and how that shared experience eases loneliness.
Guided by her years of service, her broad professional experience, and her deep belief that every person deserves meaningful connection, she knew something more was needed. She was determined to find a way to bring moments of human connection and interaction directly to those who needed it most.
Drawing on her resilience, compassion, and commitment to service, she created Roundabout Readers.
Today, Roundabout Readers provides personalized, in-room reading experiences that foster meaningful connection through shared stories. Built with purpose and dedication by a female veteran, the mission remains simple and steadfast. One reader. One room. One story at a time.
